| (Please excuse any typos or errors this time around, New Hard Drive = No MS word, and while I try to proofread, I slip up every now and then.)
Review of digital_feathers's Xanga Site:
Layout: The colors are very nice, the blue goes very well with the white text, which is a great contrast with the black. The picture at the top is very good, and I wouldn't be surprised if you drew it, based on your apparent art skills. I've only got a couple gripes: One, the headers for the date and the sidebars aren't the same height. Maybe you wanted it that way, or maybe I'm just being picky, but it looks off to me. The second is this: I hate it when people leave their xanga modification controls on their public site. It just seems sloppy to me, and hey, you could always bookmark the pages you need or memorize the URL. Overall though, nice layout. Grade: B+
Coding: Ahh! Disable right click = Bad! Please, get rid of that...it's annoying, and it doesn't actually prevent anybody who knows what they're doing from viewing your source, if that's the reason you did it (I can't think of any other one). It bugs me when people try to cripple my broswer, so please don't:) Other than that, all your scripts seem to be in place, no missing tags or anything, although your CSS is all over the place, condense it all between one set of <style> tags. Grade: B+
Content: Ah, so we like anime do we? As do I, so I found a bunch of your anime/manga related entries to be rather cute and funny. There were a couple entries that were directed at one person or another, for whatever reason, but that's fine, it's your journal. Anyways, most of the entries are written well, and I've got no major complaints. If you play any videogames at all, check out SkyGunner for PS2 - anime game with fighter jets and people with tails. Grade: A-
Bonus? Yes, .1.
Overall: 3.5
Congrats, Honor Roll for you!
Review of page21's Xanga Site:
Layout: Black, gray, not much else. To be honest, it looks very much like one of the default Xanga skins, even though it's not. I can read everything though, so that's paramount, and if you like it plain, that's you. Grade: B
Coding: Aside from the four buttons at the bottom, and a couple misc (ie: word change scripts)there's not much I see in the way of custom coding. Around that area of your HTML though (by the four buttons), you have about 42,000 tags that do nothing but open and close. They don't seem to serve any apparent purpose, so if you did that on purpose, I have no idea why, other than to be funny. In which case, I suppose it was, in a weird sort of way. So there's not much coding, but what is there works. Grade: B+
Content: This is where it counts, and this happens to be one of the stronger areas of your site...sometimes. It's hit and miss for me on this one. Microwavable soap is rather interesting, and your rather lengthy movie reviews are good. Kill Bill is indeed fantastic. Toothpaste for dinner is also good, might I recommend explodingdog.com? Then there are some entries that just bore me, so it's an up and down ride. Your spelling and grammar are good (and I did chuckle at your elbow in the ribs of those who speel lyke dis and bad gramur uses). So on the whole, your content is pretty good, and that's what counts. Grade: A-
Bonus? No.
Overall: 3.3
Nice job there, you two.
Okay, two is usually a little short, but it's my first day, so go easy on me. More later, by either towan or I.

| Bonjour mes amis, et Bienvenue a RateMySite.
Wow, that last word really killed it, didn't it? Anyways, I would be the new reviewer mentioned earlier. If any of you have been around here for any length of time, you'd recognize me as misplacedhead. If you've not heard of me, that's unfortunate, you're missing out.
Arrogant first impressions aside, I'll be reviewing here as well...in more or less a timely fashion, but I'm counting on less. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing what all you little Xangans have to offer, so until then, bien soir.

| We're got a new reviewer here at RateMySite! But I'll just let him introduce himself.
The next bit of news is that from now on I shall be called Towan. This should help you differentiate between the two of us.
I also noticed an error on my last entry. You do NOT need to apply to be reviewer to get your site reviewed. I am in the process of fixing this now.
Have a great day. -towan | | |
| Crap. I just wrote two reviews and my computer crashed before I saved the entry. Lovely.
I'll try to remember what I wrote and write it again. Grr, this is frustrating. Sorry if it's a bit abbreviated.

Layout: I find it funny that say "I hate the color PINK" in the title bar, yet you use pink for your font. But I agree, I also dislike pink. I really like this layout. It's not plain, but it's not too loud or obnoxious. The grayscale theme is done really well on your site. Grade: A-
Coding: Not too many problems with coding. I noticed you used an alpha filter for your date/blog headers. It looks really cool on Internet Explorer, but in Mozilla the header is glomped on top of the text. Grade: B
Content: The quotes, conversations and mishaps are funny, and fun to read. I like your wit, which is reflected in your writing. Don't like the hat, though. But the glasses are neato. I did find myself going into the back entries, which is always a good sign. All in all, this really is an example of good blogging, since people who don't know you (like me!) can take enjoyment from your writing as well. Your blog does get a bit random at times, making slightly harder for me to follow along, but that's such a minor thing. Grade: A-
Bonus: Yes, because I now feel bad about dissing your hat. (A more official reason is that I enjoyed the humor in your blog.) Bonus Awarded?: Yes, +.1
Overall GPA: 3.6
Congrats! You've made the honor roll!

Layout: This is a unique and interesting layout. I'm not blinded by your site, so that's good. However, the contrast between the white background, black boxes, and white text is a bit high. My eyes are in a slight bit of pain from that. But it could just be my eyes. Side note: I stared at your bottom, corner image for a while. What is it? I imagined some royal person being possessed by the demon from The Exorcist (green spew everywhere). Grade: B+
Coding: Your coding is very clean, and I don't really see any major problems with it. The minor problems are the variable loading time and the background image falling into oblivion when I view your site in a lower resolution (800x600). Uh oh, I just noticed your comment box is not working too well for me. The text appears white on a white background (in all browsers) and I have to use IE to comment. That's no good! Grade: B
Content: First off, I apologize for taking so long to review your site. Let me proceed to say that I enjoyed reading your site. I didn't know the executives at Clear Channel had any connection to Bush! Hmm. In any case, I felt my own intelligence level was feeding off of your genious, and that I came out smarter after reading your xanga. Overall, I'm really amazed by your well-written blog. If some of your entries, particularly the ones with a political theme, were placed in a well-respected newspaper or magazine, I would be fooled into thinking you were the daily columnist. I did, however, skip over the survey, as I don't generally find those things to be interesting. Yet, even when you discuss your daily activities, you do it so eloquently. Maybe you could capitalize words that appear at the beginning of each sentence? Just a suggestion. This makes larger paragraphs easier to read. Grade: A-
Bonus: Yes, for the awesome use of good writing skills. Bonus Awarded?: Yes, +.1
Overall GPA: 3.5
Congrats times two! You've made the honor roll!
Good stuff. I don't know if I'm being really nice, or if these xangas are truly extraordinary, but I suspect the latter.
By the way, you do not need to apply to be reviewer to get your site reviewed. (That would be kinda silly, wouldn't it?) Sorry for any confusion on the last entry.

| Wednesday. Reviews are early this week. No reviews this Friday.
I would like to add on another reviewer. Due to an unfortunate lack of
time on my part, I'm afraid this site will die out. Again. So if you
are interested, click on the email link to the left. Please write three
reviews, one on this xanga, one on your own xanga, and one on any other
xanga of your choice. Do the "everything review" (although I think I
may cut those other types of reviews out). I'm looking for thorough,
well thought out reviews. Most of all, I want you to be honest. If you
think my site, or the other two sites, suck hard, please say so and
explain why. Same goes for if you think the sites are good; make sure
to explain why. Please include a link to all the xangas you review, and indicate which one is yours.
Do not write any entries in the comments section of this site! Please email! Thanks.
Today's reviews will be conducted on the Mozilla Firefox browser. (That's actually a good
thing for you.) Actually, I only have time for one (I know,
that's so pitiful!) but you can blame engineering economics for that.
Rurouni_Chef
Layout:
Shades of gray are nice, soothing. But are those the default colors?
Well, in any case, I can read your xanga, and I'm not blinded by it, so
that's definitely good. The text is bit on the small side, though. But
still, not blinded. Grade: B
Coding: It looks like you might have made a few changes, such
as "questions" instead of comments. Everything works as far as I can
see. Grade: B+
Content: I like the idea of this xanga. I like it a lot. You
are dependent on your visitors for content, since the entire blog is
devoted to answering their questions. But it's unique, and it's
interesting to read. It's much better than, say, a blog containing a
massive survey about themselves. In this way, the visitors have control
over what they want to hear you talk about, and it seems to make both
you and the visitors happy. And oh yes, I have a question for you: Are
you related to The_Iron_Chef?
I saw the same name used on both sites, and naturally I'm curious.
Whoever you are, I can't deny that you've got a good thing going here.
I just have one suggestion: perhaps you can place the question being
asked before your answer, so it is easier to follow along? Grade: A-
Bonus: Yes, for the Q&A idea. Bonus Awarded?: Yes, +.1
Overall GPA: 3.5
Congrats! You've made the honor roll!
More reviews to come. | | |
